Yongsheng ADP Sponsor Visit

Window of Yongsheng

I waited too long to participate in the World Vision (WV) Yongsheng ADP Sponsor Visit, and finally the trip was on its way.

WV first landed in Yongsheng in March 1996, when that was an earth quake. WV rescue team was involved in post disaster rebuild program of 12 village in Yongsheng. Until July 1997, the post disaster rebuild program was changed to area development program (ADP). Currently, there are six villages under WV ADP, and sponsored by 4 countries, ie Australia, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia.

Generally, the people in Yongsheng are very poor, earning annual income of RM288. Imagine with this income in Malaysia, don't think it can last us for a month's expenses. Now, you can imagine, why we always say the contribution of RM 50 a month is very little to us, but it mean a lot to the Yongsheng people.



The smiling faces of the children

During the trip, I was inspired by the people here. They are poor, yet they are happy. I can't see any sadness on their face, instead, a lot of smiling faces around. They are happy with what they have.

When I look back at my past, I am unhappy about it... Why am I not born in a rich family? Why am I need to work so hard? Why am I don't have good salary and bonus? The more complaints I have, the more unhappy I am.

I wonder why the people here, they are poorer than me, they are working harder than me, they have very little income compare with me, why they are still happier than me?
Then I realised, the people here have a simple life. They are satisfied with what they have and appreciate what they could not have if WV does not exist.

I have a greedy heart, I have a decent career, a decent income, yet I am still unsatisfied with that. The great lesson that I learnt during the trip is to live life simple and happiness.

I am owner of my future, and I decide for my future. That's the very moment that have my life paradigm shifted. Why should I live with the unhappiness that I have? Why should I still complaining about the past and let it affect my future?
